There is always an alternative for boarding when the snow has melted away. Skate parks can be crowded and sandboarding provides that special something different for boarders who want to hit the dunes instead of the ocean waves.
The Student Recreation Complex (SRC) is organizing a sandboarding trip to Monterey on Oct. 8. The SRC is inviting all students, as well as non-students, to attend this fun-filled adventure.
The fee for Sandboarding in Monterey includes transportation, sandboard rentals and lessons. Students will pay $20 and non-students will pay $25. Registration deadline is at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
Sandboarding is available year-round and is perfect for those boarding lovers. Just like snowboarding, the sandboarder stands with both feet strapped to the board. The only difference? Instead of slipping through snow-covered hills, you’ll be gliding along shifting sand dunes.
“The experiences in the past have been so much fun,” Netty Andrade (sophomore, Business Administration) said. “It is perfect for people who love to experience an adrenaline rush.”
Dan Houlder, SRC director, elaborated on how the SRC is targeting potential registrants.
“We are mainly trying to get CSU Stanislaus students to go to this trip, but we’ve made an open invitation to anyone else who would like to come,” Houlder said. “We need to get as many people [as we can] to sign up for this trip so we have enough people to make this trip happen, which we haven’t had a problem [with] in the past.”
Sign-ups are in the SRC. Accepted payments are cash, check or Warrior cash.
This trip will be a great get-away for the day, an opportunity to just have fun and enjoy the massive sand dunes. No goggles, gloves or heavy clothing is required. Sandboarding only requires the board, and recommended clothing is anything comfortable and light, like a pair of boardshorts.
Pre-trip meeting is Oct. 4 at 3 p.m. in the SRC.
