Warriors setting up success

On Saturday, the Warriors took a giant stride in their quest for a great season as they took down Hawaii Pacific in straight sets, and won in five sets against Dominican at Seawolf Spike, hosted by Sonoma State University.
Blair Ehrlich led the way for the Warriors with 12 kills, followed by Jocelyn Cervantes with 11 and Paige Walker with 10 of her own. Although this year’s team lacks experience, freshmen Warriors provided a sense of optimism for the future with their great play.
The Warriors come into the season looking to improve on a disappointing 2012 campaign in which the Warriors ended with an overall record 9-21. With the amount of youth on the team, experience is needed at the college level and all the games give the team a chance to learn.
“Obviously, we want to improve our overall record,”  Assistant Coach Lianne Vicchio said. “But the difference between this year and last is a competitive attitude, and we’re hoping to increase on that, especially on our player-to-player communication due to the young team we have and relationships, which is key.”
The team comes into the season with only 2 returning seniors, Jaclyn Pinasco and Tiffany Isel, 4 sophomores and 10 freshmen. Two of the returning sophomores had standout seasons as freshmen: Jordan Harris and Kendal Munoz.
The Warriors opened their regular season Sept. 18 at Chico State and have their first home game Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. against UC San Diego.
