Are deadlines and the mere thought of midterms stressing you out? Never fear — the University Student Union (USU) is offering an escape from the pressures of college. Their Weekend Warrior Program hosts events varying from comedy shows to sports events — even hitting up the beach — with little cost to you.
Goodbye, stress, and hello, relaxation.
“We believe that education is very important, but we feel that students need to have some fun as well,” Tina Imani, Weekend Warrior Program Coordinator, said.
“We like to give students the opportunity to go to events that they might not be able to go to on their own.”
Even though the deadline for the Exclusive Comedy show by Gabriel Iglesias has already passed, there are still a lot more events to come. Be sure to save the following dates.
San Jose Sharks vs. Los Angeles Kings
Cost: $35
The Sharks will go against the Kings in the Apr. 3 game at the SAP center in San Jose. Fans can expect a good game between the top rival teams in the Pacific West Conference. Sign-ups for this event begin March 14.
San Francisco Giants vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
Cost: $55
April 16, the Giants play against the Dodgers at the AT&T Park in San Francisco. A short two-hour ride to the city for this game will get students a $25 food voucher, entry to the game and a nice view on the way home and back. Sign-ups begin March 28.
Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk
Cost: $25
May 3, students get the chance to head a couple hours away to enjoy the sun, water and sandy beach at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. With over 25 attractions available — including mini-golf, laser tag and amusement rides — students are sure to have fun in the sun. Sign-ups begin April 11.
“One semester we went to the Carrie Underwood concert and the next semester we went to the Drake concert,” Imani said. “We try to appeal to everyone, usually we try to mix it up between the different activities and semester.”
All sign-ups begin at 8 a.m. at the USU information desk on the day designated for each event. The Weekend Warrior Program is only available to currently enrolled students at California State University, Stanislaus on a first-come, first-served basis.
Didn’t make it to sign-ups in time? You may still have a chance by getting on the waitlist. It is important that each student have their school ID and sign up themselves. Just in case students change their mind after getting their spot, they are then allowed a refund by the following friday.
Transportation is included and students are directed to meet in parking Lot 8 near the Geer Road entrance onto campus. Students can sit back and relax on the way to the event, with no worries of car troubles or getting lost.
There is little cost to you, so the opportunity to get out and do something might not be so hard to do this semester.
Take a break, go to sign-ups and relax a little bit. The planning is already done, just choose your weekend, Warrior.
