After starting the season 10-0 at Ed and Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena, the Warriors have suddenly lost two straight home games, dropping their record to 13-7 overall and 9-7 in conference play.
In Friday night’s showdown with No. 7 Cal State San Bernardino, the Warriors had a chance to win it on the last possession when junior Clinton Tremelling took a three-point attempt. His jumper missed and senior Marcus Bell collected the rebound, but his put-back was too late.
The Warriors shot 51 percent for the game but only shot 5-for-17 from behind the arc.
Cal State San Bernardino converted 6-14 while shooting a sizzling 56 percent for the same.
Bell again led the Warriors, finishing the homecoming game with 21 points and pulling down 15 boards.
Then on Saturday, the game again came down to the final possession with the ball in Tremelling’s hands.
Down by two, Tremelling drove through the paint but was called for a charge with 1.3 seconds left, sealing the second straight loss for the Warriors.
The Warriors struggled for the second straight game from the three-point line, this time only connecting on 4-of-12 attempts.
After the loss, Stanislaus is now in a three-way tie for fourth place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings.
The Warriors now hit the road for the next two weeks with the first game next Friday (Feb. 14) at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
