Two long-standing National Football League records were broken on Sunday, Oct. 19. The highly publicized record was broken by football veteran Peyton Manning while the other was broken by the young and upcoming DeMarco Murray.
Peyton Manning passed Brett Favre as the all-time leader for career touchdown passes. The previous record was 508 passes, but the Broncos quarterback threw four touchdown passes against the San Francisco 49ers. While Manning brought his total passes to 510 for his career, the weak performance from San Francisco’s quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, made Manning’s night shine even brighter.
After setting a new record (and beating the 49ers 42 -17), Peyton Manning earned his 27th offensive player of the week for the American Football Conference. Both records are part of Manning’s 17th season in the NFL.
Overshadowed by Peyton Manning’s career, another NFL record was broken on Sunday. In what has been a shocking season for all football fans, the Dallas Cowboys are 6-1 and at the top of the NFC East. During the fourth quarter of their sixth straight win, the Dallas Cowboy’s running back, DeMarco Murray broke a 56 year-old record.
The previous record, set by Jim Brown from the Cleveland Browns, was six straight 100-rushing-yard games, but Murray beat it with his seventh straight 100-yard game. Murray is currently playing his fourth year of professional football.
While Murray is likely to continue his hot streak and further extend the new record, Manning has been dubbed one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, and his record might never be broken.
