The 2014 Campus Security and Fire Safety Report for our campus was made available Wednesday, Oct. 1.
This report is required of all U.S. colleges and universities. The report gives the breakdown, by number, of all crimes committed on and around campus. Also included are instructions on how to avoid or prevent crimes from occurring in general.
In the 2014 report, there is more information on sexual assault policies and procedures. The policies and procedures cover how to prevent and address domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking.
Between 2011 and 2013 there were two recorded rapes on campus and three recorded cases of sexual assault. This section also includes risk reduction tips and how to report the crimes mentioned above to the university or law enforcement.
The campus security report starts by giving a background of the University Police Department (UPD) and how they facilitate on and around campus. The report then goes into talking about security and crime prevention programs.
Some of the prevention programs include whistle defense, new student and employee orientations, crime alerts and notices, safety shuttles and personal safety escorts. Also included is a map of the campus and where all 32 emergency blue light phones are located.
In the Health and Safety policies section, the security report gives options of alcohol and other drugs treatment, counseling services, weapon possessions and workplace violence policies.
Also given in the report is the breakdown of procedures gone through during complaints made, interim remedies, administrative services to assist students, investigations, disciplinary actions, formal hearing procedures, possible disciplinary sanctions and final decisions made.
The security report finishes up by showing a chart of local and national contacts for emergency resources. The final pages include the campus fire safety report and tips, emergency response plan, emergency evacuation plan, housing policies and tips on how to abide by these policies. Also shown is a chart of on campus housing fire safety systems.
