The Student Recreation Complex (SRC) offers a variety of women’s, men’s and coed sports for the students of California State University, Stanislaus.
Intramural sports gives ordinary folks the opportunity to take the pitch like German National team soccer super star Thomas Müller, to take the gridiron like hometown football hero Colin Kaepernick or “dodge a ball like a wretch” like “Patches” O’Houlihan.
Signing up for Intramural (IM) sports is simple. Create an account at www.imleagues.com using you csustan email, or register through Facebook.
Intramurals are $60 per team to participate. The larger the team, the least expensive it becomes for the individual.
Once registered, you have the opportunity to join a team.
If you don’t know anyone organizing a team, you may become a free agent (and hopefully be picked up).
There may be an opportunity for the championship teams to compete against the champions of other local schools.
This may include UC Merced or possibly San Quentin Recreation teams.
Robin Ambrey, the new director of Intramurals, assures the participants satisfaction with the level of competition.
“Once registered, each team will be able to select if they are a competitive team or a recreational team,” Ambrey said. Ambrey understands that many of our students commute to school.
“We are sensitive to the fact that commuter students are a good portion of the student body here,” Ambrey said. “We want to make [IM] as convenient as possible.”
Intramural Sports can be a great way to find some honest competition, some fun exercise and an opportunity to live out our unfulfilled sports dreams, albeit on a smaller level.
The first session starts Sept. 15 through the end of October. There will be a second session that starts the week of Oct. 28.
