Academic Senate met on March 22 to discuss the Class of 2022 commencement ceremonies, Commencement Forms, grants being offered at Stan State, and other upcoming events.
The meeting began with the Land Acknowledgement being stated by Speaker Dana Nakano.
“We want to formally and with great respect acknowledge that we are on the traditional lands of the Yokuts Nation. Our campus, Stanislaus State, is built on the unceded ancestral lands of these indigenous tribes. Thank you for letting us honor them and give our thanks to their ancestors and descendants for their constant and careful stewardship of this land,” Nakano announced.
Dr. Haley Ye, Office of Graduate Dean, mentioned that the celebration for Research Scholarship and Creative Activities (RSCA) event is now open for registration. This event takes place on April 14 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in person, lunch is provided, attendance via Zoom is available if necessary. Ye encourages people to register for the RSCA event by the April 7 deadline which .
Christine Erickson, Vice President of Student Affairs, shared that the Student Support Services (SSS) grant is accepting students—continuing students are eligible.
“TRIO SSS is an educational excellence and equity program in support of students with first-generation status, low-income eligibility, and/or documented disability. Benefits include advising, peer mentoring, scholarships, class support, study space, and more,” Erickson explained.

Erickson also shared the Faculty RSVP Stage Seating & Regalia Request Form. They are seeking eight volunteers to assist in the recording of graduate names on May 4 to May 10. These audio recordings will be played at this year’s Commencement ceremonies to announce graduates’ names as they walk onto the stage. Then, two volunteers will be assigned to read graduate names from one of the four academic colleges.
The Volunteer Form deadline to submit is April 15.
“The volunteers are needed to assist with various responsibilities before, during, and after all Commencement ceremonies. Volunteering is open to faculty, staff, administration, and current students,” Erickson said.
If a volunteer would like to attend, a Commencement Volunteer Information Session, they will be able to go over volunteer tasks and protocols for the upcoming Class of 2022 Commencement ceremonies. These sessions take place March 24 at 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and April 5 at 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Faculty, staff, administration and students are encouraged to volunteer.
