May 14 marked the beginning of cherry season at Dell’Osso Farm, located in Lathrop. For a limited time the public can participate in cherry picking at the farm. This is the first year Dell’Osso Farm has offered the event, which will run through next weekend from 9 – 3 p.m.
Cherries on the Farm is planned to be an annual event. Visitors can choose to go pick cherries themselves or do their pre-picked option.
Visitors are taken to the orchards on a tram and everyone is free to pick as many cherries that can fit in the provided bucket. The event is free; and you will only pay for the amount of cherries picked, which are weighed and charged at $4.50 per pound. The farm also offers seasonal cherry items like popcorn, jam, and jared items. One can find cherry pastries like fresh donuts.
“We have thought about this for a while this has been in planning,” said Micheal Dell’Osso, adding that the cherry trees were planted over four years ago. The event was set up three weeks prior to make sure everything was ready in time.
Dell’Osso explained the opening day event so far, “ Probably better than we hoped. It’s been smooth.” To keep up to date with upcoming events at the farm, including their fall and winter activity offerings, be sure to check out the Dell’Osso website.
