With spring graduation approaching, information on the pros and cons of continuing into a Master’s program is being dispersed through various events hosted at CSU Stanislaus.
One of the events offered to students was the Spring Graduate Student Social which was held at the Warrior Grill.
“This aims to create a community which enhances a sense of belonging, a key factor for students’ retention and graduation based on literatures. This is especially important for first generation students and students of color,” said Dr. Haley Ye, the Dean of Graduate Studies.
Attendees created opportunities to socialize with peers from different programs.
There are a variety of benefits to attending a graduate program at Stan State. Higher education provides career advancement, access to higher-paid jobs, and new career opportunities.
Schuyler Becker (Graduate, English) shared her perspective on the benefits of such programs offered on campus.
“It gives you more time to think about your career interests and dedicate time to outside research, developing expertise in a certain area. It’s smaller so it provides opportunity to make different connections and new friends,” said Becker.
The Office of Graduate Studies and Research offers support and resources for those looking into the program.
“We help students find funds for conference travel, supplies for thesis projects, CSU system-wide scholarship opportunities, program-level opportunities, and professional development opportunities,” said Dr. Ye.
Timea Ewing (Graduate, Writing Studies) shared her insights on successful planning for grad school.
“Be organized, keep track of your assignments, start researching and conferencing early, make friends, and don’t be afraid to talk to your professors outside of class,” said Ewing.
