The Warrior baseball team won their first conference series in three years starting last Friday against San Francisco State.
Friday night was the first win of a three-game streak for the Warriors as they defeated the Gators (11-5) in an 11-inning game.
The doubleheader was started by Nick Voumard in game one, who pitched seven total innings and gave up five runs. It was not the best outing for Voumard, but it was enough to lead the Warriors to a victory as the offense picked up eight runs on 11 hits.
Scott Stetson stayed hot going 3-for-5 bringing his batting average up to .306 for the season. Nick Molina went 2-for-3 and rounded his batting average out at .263 for the season. Despite going 1-for-3 in the first game, Marcus Mastrobuoni scored two runs.
The second game was slower offensively for both teams as the Gators and the Warriors combined for only 10 total hits. The Warriors picked up six runs on six hits, where the Gators only picked up two runs on four hits.
Tyler Murphy was the star on the mound for the Warriors as he pitched a complete seven-inning game and only allowed one earned run. Murphy gave up four hits, three walks and struck out three after facing 29 batters.
Molina and Mastrobuoni stood out again in game two. Mastrobuoni stayed in the game as the designated hitter where he went 2-for-3 and picked up 2 RBI’s. Molina went 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.
The series against San Francisco State was the first three-game winning streak that the Warriors have had this year, but it was short lived as the Gators earned the victory in the last game of the series. The Warriors are now 10-19 overall, 5-14 in conference. However, the three straight wins bumped the Warriors up two spots in the CCAA rankings to ninth place in comparison to last week’s 11th ranked spot.
The baseball team will head down to San Bernardino to face the Coyotes next weekend.
