The CSU Stanislaus Warrior women’s basketball team ended the 2014-2015 season on a high note Feb. 28 at Fitzpatrick Arena, as they defeated the visiting CSU Monterey Bay Otters by the final score of 82-46. The Warriors (9-17, 7-15 CCAA) were able to avenge an overtime loss to the Otters (7-20, 5-17 CCAA) by a 63 – 60 spread earlier in the season. Warrior guard, Brianna Cotton ( senior, Kinesiology) the only senior the Warriors have, ended her time as a Warrior basketball player to a standing ovation in the second half scoring 14 points. It was a team effort for the Warriors as 9 of the 10 who played scored, five of whom scored in double figures. Camille Roberts (junior, Kinesiology) lead all scorers with 17 points coming off the bench, which included 4 three pointers that all came in the second half. The Warriors end the season on an incredible high, winning 3 of their final 4 games. This is something to build off of for next season.
The CSU Warrior men’s basketball team ended the regular season with a hard fought victory over the CSU Monterey Bay Otters by the final score of 84-78. The visiting Otters (13-15, 9-13 CCAA) were lead by their senior forward, Greg Anderson, who put up a game high of 32 points. The Warriors (17-10, 14-8 CCAA) went on an 11-0 run early in the first half and from that point on never gave up the lead. In their final regular season games Chris Read (senior, Kinesiology) lead all Warriors with 22 points alongside teammates Rob Walters (senior, Kinesiology) and Shey Mataele (senior, Kinesiology) with 14 and 13 points respectively. The season is not quite done yet for the Warriors. They will be playing a first round game March 5 as the fourth seed in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, as they face the No. 5 seed UC San Diego Tritons at the Stockton Arena at 5:30 p.m. Best of luck to our Warriors in the playoffs.
