The GROW project, which stands for Greatness Relies On Writing, was launched earlier this month to help encourage students to enhance their writing ability.
“The GROW project is the product of an appeal in my annual presidential address to the campus community in August of 2013 to champion writing as a key to success and as the hallmark of an educated person.” President Joseph F. Sheley said in email communication with The Signal.
The GROW project website located on the csustan.edu website offers tools such as grammar explanations and examples, information about our schools writing center and resources students can use to enhance all aspects of their writing.
Students do not have to be a specific major to receive help from the GROW project. There are writing samples on the website that range from first-year composition to critical thinking and Criminal Justice writing.
The website explains that if you follow what the GROW project has to offer, you will change not only your communication skills in writing but also develop skills necessary for life.
“Employers tell us daily that they are having trouble finding people who write competently,” President Sheley said. “I don’t want our students to find this out after graduation. Good writing opens doors.”
President Sheley has a vision for California State University, Stanislaus students to be known for their writing ability; he wants students to leave here after graduation and not be caught unprepared for the writing standards employers are holding for future employees.
“The GROW project is here as a recognition to any student who thinks they are dumb or don’t do as well as, they aren’t alone and there’s a strategic way around it.” Tim Lynch Associate Vice President for Communications and Public Affairs said.
