It was a tough day at the diamond for CSU Stanislaus as they dropped both games of the double header Saturday, March 14 to the visiting CSU Monterey Bay Otters with a score of 9-5 in game one and 2-0 in seven innings for game two at the Warrior baseball field.
Game one started off shaky for the Warriors (6-14) as starting pitcher, Nick Voumard, gave up five of his eight runs he allowed in 3 1-3 innings of work in the first two innings. The Warriors did show some light in the bottom of the second as they put up five runs against the Otters (16-7). Third baseman, Nick Molina, started the two out rally with an RBI single, followed by two run doubles that were hit by center fielder, Scott Stetson, and catcher, Marcus Mastrobuoni.
The rest of the Otter runs came in the fourth inning as they tacked on 4 runs. That was enough as Otter reliever, Andrew Astone, pitched the final four innings in relief and only give up two hits silencing the Warrior bats and giving the Otters game one.
Game two was not an improvement offensively for the Warriors as they were shut out in game two. The Warriors did their job defensively for starter Chris Senn, as shortstop Nick Ippolito threw a runner out at home in the second inning and the Warriors turned a 6-4-3 double play in the third with the bases loaded for the Otters. Monterey Bay starter, Ryan Boydstun, pitched a complete game shutout to give the Otters the win and a guarantee of the series that ends tomorrow.
The Warriors end the series with the Otters tomorrow, March 15, at 1:05 p.m. in Seaside. Following the Otter series, the Warriors will face Sonoma State University next week.
