Let’s just face it, Katy Perry won. No, not for her extravagant, lion riding, shooting-star-flying Super Bowl halftime performance. Perry won because she “picked up the request line.”
The beach balls stopped bobbing, the sharks stopped dancing, the beat dropped and the “music made you lose control.”
Backed by a spotlight, Missy Elliott appeared for the best throwback of 2015. Viewers across the country turned into their early 2000 selves and laid down that track like it just hit the Billboards yesterday. “Holla.”
For the first ever #TBT article, Perry scores big for her halftime throwback to Elliott’s hit songs including “Get Ur Freak On,” “Work it” and “Lose Control”— all of which were released between 2001 and 2005.
In case you forgot, Missy Elliott, a stage name for Melissa Arnette Elliott, is a five time Grammy Award winning solo artist and rapper. Her career led her to selling 30 million records to fans across the United States. Ready for a comeback tour yet? One could only wish.
A Missy Elliott throwback just not your thing? No worries. From 90s kid’s toys to 80s neon, we will be throwing it back every Thursday here at The Signal. But for now, “Missy be puttin it down.” #TBT #MicDrop #IsItWorthIt #LetMeWorkIt
