Let’s get the ball rolling, the basketball rolling that is. California State University, Stanislaus’ (Stan State) basketball season has officially begun, and with that, we have plenty of newcomers to welcome to Warrior Nation.
In men’s basketball, we have the honor of welcoming 10 new members to our Warrior squad.
The roster includes newcomers AJ Bigornia (freshman, Pre-Nursing) from Glendora, Nate Henry (junior, Business) from Ukiah, Stephen Evans (junior, Criminal Justice) from Fontana, Kyi Thomas (junior, Kinesiology) from Sacramento, Joseph Alvarez (freshman, Psychology) from Azusa, Jordan Santa Maria (freshman, Communications) from Alameda, Parker Griffin (freshman, Kinesiology) from Ceres, Dylan Alexander (junior, Political Science) from Stockton, Eddie La Torre (junior, Business) from San Bernardino and Vondel Faniel (junior, Sociology) from Los Angeles.
Returning for the 2015-2016 season are Alek Carlson (senior, Business), Joey Bennett (junior, Business), Richard Medina (sophomore, Business), Christian Bayne (sophomore, Liberal Arts), Tim Thymes (freshman, Computer Science) and Kyle Gouveia (sophomore, Kinesiology).
To kick off the season, the men brought home a win in an exhibition contest against Bristol University (77-53) on Nov 5. Their next home game will be on Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. against Cal State San Bernardino.
Women’s basketball is gearing up for their 2015-2016 season as six out of 17 players are new to Stan State.
This new Warrior crew will feature Caprina Pipion (freshman, Biology) from Folsom, Elisabeth Alexander (freshman, Pre-Nursing) from Stockton, Carlissa Ship (freshman, Criminal Justice) from Stockton, Samantha Rudd (freshman, Kinesiology) from Santa Clara, Cameo Warren (freshman, Computer Science) from Antelope and Leticia Infante (sophomore, Kinesiology) from Stockton.
Rebounding back to the Warrior court for the women are Ana Burch (junior, Sociology), Alysa Valentine (senior, Business), Camille Roberts (senior Kinesiology), Taylor Faucett (sophomore, Nursing), Reana Hardin (junior, Business), Aleseana Whitney (sophomore, Nursing), Riley Holladay (junior, Psychology), Morgan Roots (junior, Business), Jasmine Washington (senior, Psychology), Cassidy Sanders-Curry (junior, Communications) and Erika Larsen (sophomore, English).
So far, the women hold a stat of one win and three losses. The next game for them will be on Nov. 29 at the Ed and Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena at 2 p.m. against Holy Names University.
Keep an eye out for the newcomers as they all have promising futures in their collegiate careers playing for Stan State.
