While some are getting caught up in the season of giving, there are kids in our area who are still going without proper winter clothing or that special Christmas gift. Project Giving Tree gives California State University, Stanislaus (Stan State) students and faculty the opportunity to select a local youth off the tree and fulfill their holiday wishes.
The tree will be displayed in the Student Union Lobby from Nov. 9 to Dec. 4. Donations and holiday wishlist items such as toys, gloves and winter coats will be accepted Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Stan State students are already taking the opportunity to select one or more tags off the tree in order to get started. Katie Copeland (senior, Business) selected a five-year-old little girl named America and wishes to make her Christmas a special one.
“This is my second year doing the giving tree,” Copeland said. “I participate because these children otherwise wouldn’t receive any clothes or toys for Christmas.”
The children on this tree are from the local area and wish to have the basic necessities for winter that we tend to take for granted at times. Each tag has specific items and sizes listed on it, but extra item donations are always encouraged.
