While there are some people talk about giving to the Syrian refugee crisis, there are those putting words into actions. The mysterious artist known as Banksy has just given the refugee shelter from his own amusement park.
“Dismaland”, as he named it, is a “Bemusement” park for those in Weston-Super-Mare, England. It was an alternative theme park of sorts, with works from other artists as well. Its attractions included works revolving around issues that happen globally, such as an woman being attacked by a flock of seagulls in reference to the bird epidemic that the media was in panic over this summer.
“Coming Soon: Dismaland Calais” was written on the Dismaland website last Sunday.
“All the timber and fixtures from Dismaland are being sent to the ‘jungle’ refugee camp near Calais (a port city in France) to build shelters. No online tickets will be available,” the website said.
On Monday the artist dismembered his park with the plans to ship parts to the refugees camped out in France. The ‘jungle’ located outside of Calais is the home to around 4,000 men and 350 women and children. Here they hope to find passage to the UK channel. It is one of the biggest refugee camps in Western Europe.
The refugees help one another to build camp, and aid workers do as much as they can to help those coming in. However, donations and food do not come easily.
Dismaland is just one of many that are offering their assistance to the refugee crisis.
There are many ways you can help the refugee crisis. On the mercycrops.org page you can donate to help them supply food and water to those in need. You can also sign a petition that is located on a link to their page to advocate for congress involvement.
