The student body voted Nicole Larson (junior, Criminal Justice Legal Studies) as their new Associated Student Incorporated (ASI) President. Larson explained that the work she did during the summer has helped get ready for the new semester.
“Working a lot in the summer has gotten a foot in the door. Learning how our administration works as well as our organization, policies and things to make sure I know what my job entails as well as to make sure I’m ready for the year to ensure I’m doing my job right for the students,” Larson said.
Larson feels that reaching out is a priority.
“A big priority for me is reaching out to the surrounding communities. I lived in Turlock my whole life and I do identify and see between our college campus and Turlock itself the lack of communication, and since we’re a growing campus, our growth is through the roof, I think it is a great opportunity to reach out to the surrounding community, and I want ASI to be one of the big stakeholders in that relationship,” Larson said.
Larson explained what she wants her legacy to be.
“I want to be a president that got the foot in the door for long term changes like; community outreach, having a relationship between Turlock and the community. As well as someone who is extremely approachable […] I hope I can encompass a personal connection with students,” Larson said.
“I think the biggest responsibility is that you are always ASI president. I will always have this, and I think that is a huge responsibility to be trusted with,” Larson said.
Larson gave the motto she hopes her tenure will be defined as.
“Never leave any door unopened. There is going to be so many opportunities in our educational system and it’s a student’s job to open that door. It’s up to the students to decide I’m going to make time for this because it will help me grow as a person and as a leader in whatever professional endeavor they want to go in after college,” Larson said.
Larson hopes to see students getting involved with issues.
“I think getting involved is for everybody. Our organization (ASI) sole purpose is to serve the students and you have somewhere you will always fit in with ASI and our door is always open,” Larson said.
