TURLOCK – The California State University, Stanislaus softball team split Friday’s doubleheader against the San Francisco State Gators.
In the opening game, the first run for the Warriors came in the second inning with a home run by Lauren Liming. Vanessa Del Toro would later score Brittani Weatherford by grounding out to third base.
Finally, the Warriors would score three more runs in the fifth, eventually concluding a Warriors victory at 5-1.
“We did a good job coming out [and] swinging the bat hard with runners in scoring position” Weatherford said.
Weatherford threw a solid complete game; giving up one run, four hits and striking out five. The Warriors had a productive offensive first game, with ten hits and five runs. Sarah Locarnini and Weatherford went 2-for-4. Jordan Flora went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
The Gators would come back in the second game, beating the Warriors 4-1.
The loss went to Natalie Rendon who threw only four innings, giving up three runs and six hits. Rendon would later be relieved by Weatherford to finish the game. Lauren Liming went 2-for-2 with a run scored.
“Our first game I felt like we came out hacking and were having fun and played really well together,” Flora said. “The second game I felt like we were still having fun, we just couldn’t string our hits together and adjust soon enough.”
The Warriors league record is now 5-17 and they will play their next game against the Gators on Wednesday at San Francisco to close the series.
