There have always been band rivalries. Local bands compete with each other to get shows; but at the end of the day, everyone is cool with each other.
Lately there’s been a growing trend of bands having tons of beef with each other, similar to what goes on in the rap scene with rappers calling each other out in songs and having their “crews” take their rivals out (these are alleged of course).
Here’s the thing with band beef, it hurts the music scene. It turns fans off to your band, causes bands not to want to play shows together and causes fans to pick between bands. Bands in a music scene should be united and working together to make this music scene great.
It seems as though bands are turning into high school girls. Bands have started taking to Facebook and hating on each other by posting how much they suck and should quit music. Why is there so much beef between bands?
There used to be a time (let’s go back to the MySpace era) where bands would post on each profiles trying to set-up shows or say, “Hey guys! Great job tonight, it was a gnarly!” So what’s changed?
Are bands just now starting not to like each other’s music? No way! There are tons of local bands that I don’t care for musically, but I still think they’re cool guys. In that case, there must be a personal hate between these bands. Probably not, because the bands I’m specifically referring to have never met, or at least that’s what they said.
The point is this, Word of Man and Cut the Foreplay, cut the beef. Fighting isn’t cool and you’re making yourselves look really stupid. The music scene should be united, so drop the Facebook fighting and grow up.
