Dive on into this visually stunning and rewarding video game as Commander Shepard and take back the Earth from the relentless Reapers. This will be BioWare’s last game of the trilogy, and this third person shooter role playing game (RPG) is not going down without a fight.
As Commander Shepard, it is the player’s duty to build up character skills, acquire upgraded technology and gather a team of war hardened veterans to join the fight to save Earth. The player must rally different alien species and convince them to fight off the Reapers, a synthetic-organic life form that will stop at nothing to wipe out all technically advanced life forms. The only thing that is really known about these fiends is that they appear every 50,000 years to rid the universe of intelligent life, and so far, are successful.
With all of these objectives and things to worry about, it makes the game feel fast paced. It makes the player think that the Reapers will strike at any moment. There isn’t a countdown clock on any mission, however, they put pressure on the player to press on and complete an objective. The combination of teammates telling the player to hurry, accompanied with the massive waves of enemies, seems to put people on the edge of their seat.
The mixture of action, storytelling and player’s choices makes this game like no other. The game allows the player to establish a one of a kind of connection that allows the player to make all the decisions that they want to make. If the player feels they want the character to reflect their own morality and ethics, they can make those choices.
The most noticeable differences between the third game compared to the first two are the enemies’ tactics. The tactics of the enemy have become more fluid and mature. They will jump out of the way of your heavy attacks and take cover when being fired at. The enemies are smart and alter their tactics if they cannot shoot at you from their position. In some cases, the enemy will attempt to flank you.
The biggest improvements would have to be the battle mechanics. Running in the second game was quite tough. Shepard would just run and not really turn all that much. Now that they worked out the kink, the player can run in circles around enemies and obstacles.
The graphics in this game are somewhat astonishing. “Mass Effect 2” looked great, but the third one is sharper, smoother and overall more refined. The transitions from cinematic cut scenes to gameplay in “Mass Effect 3” are flawless and you can hardly tell the difference.
This game allows players to be male or female in the game. BioWare does a really great job at making this a game that can be played by both men and women. The way the story unfolds doesn’t make it specific to one gender or sexual orientation. The player can even have a fling with a squad member, for all of you romantics.
This game has the most compelling storyline of any of the games out there and it is a must have for any gamer or anyone who wants to get into the world of gaming. Pick up every game in the series and you can expect to have your fill of action, romance, comedy, tragedy and triumph. “Mass Effect” has everything you can ask for in a game, or any form of entertainment for that matter.
