On April 28, Turlock is starting a new tradition in which the whole day is dedicated to the campaign of Love Turlock. On this day, members of the community are donating their time and effort to reach out and show kindness to Turlock.
Love Turlock originated from the previous campaign Love Modesto, which was created by Big Valley Grace Community Church out of Modesto.
Back in 2007, Modesto had landed itself on “one of the worst cities in America” lists and Big Valley wanted to find a way to change that. After a few years of dreaming and planning, the first Love Modesto was launched on March 7, 2009. Over 1,200 people participated and after this success, the simple community service project began to grow.
In 2011, Love Ceres, Love Riverbank, and Love Escalon began and since then various cities and communities across Stanislaus County have joined, including Turlock. Over 11,000 people of all ages, sizes, groups and organizations have volunteered for this cause.
Volunteers of these community-wide service days engage in a variety of projects such as donating blood, cleaning up community parks, helping in convalescent homes, offering food to the hungry and many other opportunities.
In Turlock, members of the community may volunteer for projects that revolve around helping people in need, performing manual labor, helping at local schools or simply being an encouragement to others.
There are thousands of spots that can still be filled for Love Turlock. A more specific list of projects happening, along with the opportunity to sign up and more information, are available at www.loveturlock.com. Hurry, because the deadline to sign up is April 22.
Volunteers will be meeting in the Target Parking Lot at 3000 Countryside Drive on April 28 at 9 a.m. to kick off the event.
Get involved, meet the needs of our community and Love Turlock.
