TURLOCK – The California State University, Stanislaus Warriors lost to the Western Oregon University Wolves this past Friday in Game 1 of a four game series 3-6.
Justin Manci went 3-for-5, while Jordan Long added 3 hits for the Warriors. Craig Beevers also had 2 hits for Stanislaus. Byron Lemon pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up three unearned runs on nine hits.
Joe Whitehead, Chris Short, and Dustin Baisdon came in to relief and threw 3 ⅓ innings combined giving up only three hits, one unearned run, walking three and striking out two.
For Western Oregon, Grady Wood began the game 3-0 with an ERA of under 1.20 while opponents are hitting only .208. He gave up 10 hits and struck out eight Warriors in 7 innings of play. A J Burke pitched in relief for the last two innings, picking up his third save of the season while walking one and striking out two and giving up only one hit.
This loss for the Warriors brings them 2-5 and the Wolves 10-4 for the season. The Warriors will have another chance at victory Saturday, in their doubleheader.
