TURLOCK – The California State University, Stanislaus Warriors baseball team earned a split in their doubleheader against the #18 Western Oregon University Wolves on Saturday, 8-10 in the first game and 10-7 in the second.
The Wolves scored five times in the seventh inning, giving them a 9-5 lead. Regardless of the Warrior’s three run rally in the bottom of the inning, the Wolves offense was too much.
Craig Beevers’ 4-for-5 performance was not enough as the Warriors fell and Anthony Gotelli, now 1-1, picked up his first loss of the season pitching three innings and allowing only two earned runs on four hits and four strikeouts.
In Game 2, DJ Arellano and Craig Beevers together went 7-for-7 with a 7 RBI day to help the Warriors come away with a win while Jordan Long and Andy Yingling had two hits each.
Shay Maltese picked up his first win of the season for the Warriors as he tossed 6 ⅓ innings allowing only one earned run on six hits while striking out eight.
For the Wolves, Travis Bradshaw picked up his first loss of the season as he allowed seven earned runs on only 3 ⅓ innings pitched.
