Get
ready to put your hands together this Saturday and say grace for the
second annual Rocksgiving Holiday Hoedown! Last year KCSS put together a
show that demanded an encore. This year’s Rocksgiving Holiday Hoedown
will take place Saturday night at 8:00 pm at the Grizzly Rock Café
located at 4905 Golden State Blvd. There is no cover charge or age
restriction for the show. There will be two stages however, making this
one of the biggest shows that the Grizzly has hosted yet.’
On
the queue for Saturday night are Ménage, not an Airplane, The Airlings,
Indian Runner, Adam Bishop and Table for Five. Garrett Neeley, Station
Manager of KCSS was not shy about his feelings concerning the local
music scene, “The valley has a quality of music on par with any other
city in California” said Neeley.
The
show will have both rock ‘n’ roll and folk/country elements, containing
the valley’s handpicked favorites as well as a guest traveling all the
way from Canada, Ménage. Let’s hope they like the heat.
Neeley
referred to Adam Bishop as “perhaps the hardest working man in Turlock
with regards to his craft” and described Bishop’s music as “catchy, feel
good, old tyme country music that would make Hank Williams get up and
dance.”
Table
for Five recently joined Reverbnation, only to jump to number five in
the Turlock charts. Neeley mentions that they have “…taken the city by
storm with their energy.” Apparently, Reverbnation is next.
While
not an Airplane’s last album was featured in Rolling Stone Magazine,
Neeley describes the latest material as, “evolved into something
entirely different; aggressively compelling.” This will be the second to
last show before Nick Shattell leaves for Seattle, so if you want to
see him before he moves this is the show to attend.
The
Airlings are new on the scene, but cutting their teeth on the feast of
Rocksgiving isn’t a bad way to start out the season. “Their songs are
aesthetically wonderful, the lyrics well thought out, the chemistry of
the band noticeable in their sound,” said Neeley.
Neeley
also had nice things to say about Indian Runner’s lead
singer/songwriter. Michael White “is easily one of the most intriguing
guys to watch on stage. Focused lyrics, raw sound,” said Neeley.
All
in all, this show is sizing up to be as tasty a selection as the
holiday table it’s named for. Be there or be square. Or be square and
show up anyway; this year’s assortment will probably sound just as good.
