Summer is officially over, and Fall is here. This is the first sign that the Holiday season is approaching! This is the time of the year that caramel and cinnamon get added to our drinks and desserts, while pumpkin, appeals and turkey become the main ingredient.
For those of you who are on the go, but still want a taste of fall, you can always stop by Starbucks Coffee to pick up one of their seasonal drinks. Or, if you don’t want to leave campus, you can go to the Mary Stuart Rogers Building (MSR) where they brew Starbucks coffee. Starbucks has several seasonal drinks to choose from such as their most popular Pumpkin Spice Latte, Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate, Salted Caramel Mocha and Hot Apple Cider.
If you are looking for a fall breakfast or lunch, Panera Bread now has their fall menu out. Start your day out with Sausage and Gouda Baked Egg Souffle or Steel Cut Oatmeal topped with dried cherries, almond, and apple chips; it pairs well with a Caramel Latte. Not a morning person? Panera now has a Turkey and Cranberry Panini for lunch or dinner.
If you want to stay in and create your own fall flavors, FoodNetWork.com is a great way to learn how to make quick and easy fall foods in your own kitchen. Two ideas for dessert are caramel apples with homemade caramel and cinnamon-anise poached pears that take only minutes to prepare.
Another great fall dessert is chocolate caramel covered marshmallows. Put a marshmallow on a stick then dip it in caramel. Wait for it to harden then dip it in chocolate. Once the chocolate has hardened, they are ready to be served. This and other ideas can also be found on Pinterest, such as Pumpkin Fluff and Pumpkin Pie Martinis.
Pinterest also has dinner ideas, such as crock pot ham. Cover the bottom of the crock pot with brown sugar. Place ham on top of the brown sugar Then add pineapple tidbits with the juice. Sprinkle more brown sugar over the ham. Put the lid on and cook on low for seven to eight hours. This is a great replacement for those who do not enjoy turkey.
Don’t feel like going to great lengths to put together a desert? During this time of the year pumpkin and apple pies are easy to find. Each desert can be paired with a scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with sweet caramel.
Fall foods and drinks are not here for long. Take advantage of your favorites while they last!
