TURLOCK — The California State University, Stanislaus women’s volleyball team had their first two conference games of the season this weekend, splitting a 3-0 sweep against Humboldt State University with a loss to Cal Poly Pomona.
On Friday, the Lady Warriors faced Humboldt State in front of a home-crowd of nearly 200 fans. Senior middle hitter Melissa Bishop ended the first set 25-16 with a strong kill assisted by freshman setter Kendal Muñoz and junior libero Ashley Pittman. A second set 25-18 victory followed, putting the Warriors ahead 2-0.
In the third set, CSU Stanislaus did not let more than four points get between them and their competition, winning 25-14 as well as sweeping the match 3-0. Senior outside hitter Andrea Fett led the team with 12 kills, and Muñoz had 20 assists
“We’ve really been working on bonding as a team through our camping trip and we started off with double days and just everyone working together,” head coach Christina Lore explained. “We really are one team so that gets us through the rough spots.”
On Saturday, the team fell 17-25, 15-25 and 18-25 to Cal Poly Pomona. Fett had 13 kills and Muñoz had 25 assists, topping off their numbers from the previous night. Pittman had 10 digs and junior defensive specialist Jaclyn Pinasco had six.
The Lady Warriors currently hold a 4-6 record. Their next game will be against San Francisco State on Friday, September 21 at 7 p.m. in the Warrior Arena.
