Believe it or not, there are several places on the California State University, Stanislaus campus that people are completely unaware of. Student admission fees cover things such as health care, counseling, tutoring and the recreational complex. By simply being a CSU Stanislaus student you get free admission to all these places on campus.
One resource on campus that many students are unaware of is the Health Center. The Health Center is funded solely by CSU Stanislaus students through a mandatory student health fee. The Health Center is equipped with eight examination rooms, a pharmacy, a clinical laboratory, a minor surgery room and two infirmary rooms.
“Male and female nurse practitioners are available for any UTI test, Pap smears, flu shots, STD testing, etc.,” said Kate Evans, Administrative Support Assistant for the Health Center.
She also added that health educators are available for general health care issues, such as soreness, aches and broken bones. Patient care hours are Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., and Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
Counseling Services is another resource paid for with student fees that often goes unnoticed. Counseling services are available in the Mary Stuart Rogers (MSR) building for confidential psychological counseling to students. Counselors aid in emotional and relationship problems, anxiety/stress, academic success, abuse, sexuality and grief. Couples counseling is also available for partners or spouses to help with various issues.
Another organization available for students who have trouble in any academic subject is the Tutoring Center. Individual or group tutoring is available for most classes. Most tutoring takes place in the Vasche Library at specified times. The Naraghi Hall of Science also offers free tutoring services available for science courses.
The Career Services Center is also available to students at CSU Stanislaus, which assists students in the process of identifying, developing, implementing and evaluating career plans to prepare for employment after graduation. The career center serves as a vital link for the transition from school to the workplace.
The Student Recreational Complex is another frequently overlooked resource, which is available to all enrolled CSU Stanislaus students. There are male and female locker rooms, various workout equipment and an aerobics room. In addition, a multi-sport gymnasium can be set up for basketball, volleyball or anything students request, and a track is available for student use during the day.
Another disregarded site on campus is the Game Room. The Game Room offers chairs for socializing, games, a refrigerator, microwave and vending machines. There are two Xbox 360’s with Xbox live, and there is a Nintendo Wii available. Games are always changing, but students may rent a game for a dollar every half hour or two dollars every half hour for Xbox live. The Game Room also has board games, ping pong ($1 per half hour) and pool tables ($2 per half hour). Gamers can enter different tournaments to win prizes or just attend for socializing.
In addition to all these resources on campus, students can utilize Academic Advising, the Advising Resource Center, numerous more computer labs, Facility Reservations for their own use, the Writing Center and many more. These resources are here for students, so take advantage and use them all!
