Climax is a new LGBT-focused nightclub that is located at 607 7th Street in Modesto. Owners Zantha Towe and Rachel Baxter are a well-traveled couple who had a big dream to open a stylish club students can enjoy it without having to make a two hour drive San Francisco.
Climax offers a full drink menu with specialized names and bottle service with reservable cabanas. The atmosphere is retro-contemporary, with mirrored walls and a carpet wall. The venue also features a large open patio. Towe stated that there will soon be an open outdoor bar. The entire venue was custom built and tailored to bring style and sophistication to the central valley. The dress attire is casual and Towe encourages students and locals to be comfortable even in flip flops and shorts. The bar includes beer on tap, specialty cocktails, and V.I.P. bottle service available by reservation.
“I’m glad that Modesto is expanding on its diversity and nightlife,” Jessica Smith (senior, Anthropology) said.
While attending the grand opening event on Saturday, Sep. 7, 5 large flat screens were projecting music videos in conjunction with top 40 hits that the DJ played. Climax is open Tuesday through Sunday, from 5 p.m.-2 a.m., with Happy Hour from 5-8 p.m. everyday (which is great for college students). The club is 21+ and requires a valid I.D. Climax will have themed nights including country, open karaoke, top 40, and dance by resident DJ Invisible.
Towe states that the staff–everyone from security and bartenders to DJ’s–are there to provide the community with an amazing overall experience. The dance floor is large, parking is free and it also has lounge seating.
Both women have business backgrounds. Baxter graduated from San Fransisco State University with a degree in business and accounting and Towe has been running businesses since she was 21.
Baxter’s and Towes’s main goal for their business is to give back to the community and offer hope for students and local residents to get involved in making dreams happen.
“We at Climax have huge ideas and plan to give back to the community,” Gregory Perez (bartender of Climax) said. “A portion of the cover fee, charged on Friday and Saturday nights after 10:30 p.m., will go to help the Modesto Pride Organization.”
