ROHNERT PARK — California State University, Stanislaus’ women’s volleyball team walked away with a 1-3 record, solely defeating Dominican University of California at Sonoma State’s Seawolf Spike tournament this past Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, the Warriors faced Central Washington and Western Washington. Central Washington took the win 3-0, followed by another three set match against Western Washington that left the Warriors winless 0-3. Senior Andrea Fett led the team with 22 kills total for the day, followed by junior Eva Chafeh with 17.
Saturday, CSU Stanislaus started off their day with five battle rounds against Dominican. After a first set that left the Warriors behind 0-1, they turned the second set around with a 25-18 win. It looked as though the third set would also go to the Warriors, until small attack errors set them back as Dominican crept ahead 25-21. Chafeh had seven crucial kills during the middle of the fourth set, later resulting in another Warrior win 25-23 but leaving the opposing teams tied at 2-2 overall. Strong teamwork and determination pushed CSU Stanislaus to take the fifth set 15-12, earning their first match victory of the tournament.
At the final match against Seattle Pacific, the Warriors started off strong to win the first set 25-17. They lost momentum in the second and third sets, falling 13-25 and 15-25, but held on the entirety of the fourth set until Seattle Pacific took the win 25-23. Seattle Pacific took the match win 3-1.
The Lady Warriors currently hold a 3-5 record and will have their first conference game at home on Friday, September 14 against Humboldt State.
