Jordan Kron (senior, Kinesiology) was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association’s (CCAA) Pitcher of the Week after going into hostile territory of the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds Stadium in front of a raucous crowd anxious to see their team shell the Warriors ace.
The Sunbirds were ultimately disappointed as Kron worked eight innings of one run ball, with the single run coming in unearned, in the process of striking out eight Sunbirds.
Before the Manteca product would carve up the Sunbirds, Kron seemed destined to become an athlete.
“Growing up I was always interested in sports, I grew up around it, both my parents came here to Stan and were athletes and I was raised to be an athlete,” Kron said.
The day he was born he stepped into the shadow of his parents who have left their own respective mark on the sports and teams they played in. Kron’s father played basketball with his mother lending her talents to the softball and club soccer teams.
Kron had to make his own way without the benefit of being a prototypical 6’2 225 lb gifted athlete. He did however have the benefit of a strong arm and a puritan work ethic.
“I couldnt catch, I couldnt field, I couldnt run, but I could throw hard.”
Kron was never the most naturally gifted athlete, but he was determined to be the hardest working player on the field. Kron attributes much of his success to his parents.
“Obviously, without them I wouldnt be here. They raised me a certain way to handle my business and work hard,” said California State University, Stanislaus’, (Stan State) pitcher.
Despite his effort, skill grabbing attention and recognition from batters inside the box to the CCAA, Kron deflected all praise to those around him.
“I kind of dont like the fact the award is “Pitcher of the Week” considering it’s a team effort.”
Never one to neglect those who pushed Kron to access his potential, he went on to praise his coach and teammates.
“My coach, Kenny Leonesio, we have a good relationship; with him calling the pitches and him having trust in me, I would never be as far as I would success-wise,” Kron said.
He went on to stress the importance of the rest of the team.
“Without those 8-9 guys behind me, this award means nothing”.
“Jordan’s success all starts with his work ethic,” Head Coach Kenny Leonesio said.
“He has gotten himself into great shape and is a very smart pitcher. He is a true ace of our pitching staff and is an outstanding leader.”
From out of the shadow of others to casting his own, Kron is making a name for himself.
Currently, the Stan State baseball teams holds a record of 7 wins and 1 loss. The next home game will be on Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. against Chico State.
