Seven Islands Union Club (SIU) will be hosting an International dinner. This year the focus will be on Asia and will take place on the 16th of November at 6pm at California State University, Stanislaus’ (Stan State) Event Center.
The event will feature a silent auction, trivia, performances, food from six different Asian Countries, free henna, and an open dance floor at the end of the night.
President of Seven Islands Union, Japjit Kaur (senior, Computer Science), stated that the inspiration for this event originated from when she attended Modesto Junior College (MJC).
While studying at MJC she was part of an International Club on campus that threw an event focusing on learning about new cultures.
“It was like a tasting of different dishes. It was a great success every year and people looked forward to it every year. When I transferred to Stan State and became president of the SIU, I wanted to do a similar event,” said Kaur.
J’Ana Diamond (Alumni, English) attended the India themed event last year.
“My experience at the event last year was amazing. It is an event for everyone to enjoy and learn about different cultures in a really fun engaging way. The food was great and everyone is so nice and kind. They really try to incorporate as many cultures as they can,” Diamond said.
Diamond enjoyed the event so much, that she will be flying in from San Diego to attend Asian Night this year.
“I wanted to come back and visit Turlock at least once to see my friends and it just seemed like the perfect time would be when the international dinner was happening. I had such an amazingly great time last year, I can’t wait to see what the dinner will have in store this time,” Diamond said.
Vice President of SIU, Yuanwei Zhang (senior, Computer Science) added in that the club is open to future event theme suggestions.
“SIU is all about integrating the international students and their culture with the Americans culture and vise versa. We are grateful for this opportunity to share it with our community,” Kaur Stated.
