The University Student Union (USU) at California State University, Stanislaus (Stan State), hosts various Weekend Warrior trips for students to take advantage of and have fun. Every semester, USU plans and encourages students to attend concerts, museums, amusement parks, sport games and other events. It is a great way to take a break from school work and enjoy a fun time with friends and get to know other students off campus.
Christine Kinsley (Alumni, Psychology) stated, “[I’ve] seen emails about it, however, I did not know it was called Weekend Warrior. I know that students get to go to games, trips to Yosemite and even to the beach.”
The great part of Weekend Warrior field trips is that they are inexpensive. Students merely pay half of the total cost to go to these trips and the transportation to and from the event is provided.
This semester, the event coordinator for Weekend Warrior, Lizbeth Rocha, and USU set up an amazing list of events for students to attend:
- September 11 – SF Giants vs. LA Dodgers (ended up getting cancelled)
- October 3 – Imagine Dragons Concert
- October 28 – Great America Halloween Haunt
- November 18 – The San Francisco Dungeon and Madame Tussauds Wax Museum
Emily Lamas (senior, Communication Studies) said, “I have heard of the Weekend Warrior Program and I think it is amazing! I love the variety of the programs you can go to and how cheap they are. I would love to go to the Imagine Dragons concert. Seem’s like a great time!”
Angie Mendoza (freshman, Business) explains that she has seen the Weekend Warrior signs around campus and was intrigued, “The only thing that interested me was the Great America Halloween Haunt, but I am too scared to go. However, in the near future I would like to go.”
When given the chance to choose any field trip to attend for Weekend Warrior, students chose a variety of exciting new places.
“First thing that came to mind is San Francisco, going to the museum, not just the beaches and piers, and getting to see cultural and historical places. Another place is Columbia, CA, known as the historic gold rush town from when California was discovered. You can actually pan for real gold there,” Kinsley said.
“I wish we did Disneyland, I would love to see Mickey and Minnie Mouse,” Mendoza said.
If you missed the previous field trips from Weekend Warrior, no need to worry because two more thrilling trips are going to be taking place these upcoming weekends.
On Oct. 28, Stan State students are going to be going to Great America Halloween Haunt in Santa Clara. The tickets will be $30 and it will include the bus ride. Sign-ups will begin on Oct. 16.
On Nov. 18, students will be able to attend the San Francisco Dungeon and Madame Tussauds Wax Museum. The tickets will only be $27 and it includes the bus ride and a trip to Pier39. Sign-ups for this trip begin on Nov. 6.
