Panhellenic sororities of California State University, Stanislaus (Stan State), are getting ready for their fall recruitment which will be taking place this weekend, Friday through Sunday. Alpha Xi Delta, Phi Sigma Sigma and Phi Mu are the three main national sororities that compose Stan State’s Panhellenic group.
Alpha Xi Delta

Alpha Xi Delta (AXID) gives back to the community through their philanthropy, Autism Speaks. The sorority has currently raised over $5,000,000 towards their philanthropy. Their most popular event is the Autism Walk, which is held in the Central Valley. This event helps spread awareness and raise money for the autistic population. Also, April is Autism Awareness month, and Stan State’s front part of the campus will “light it up blue” in honor of Autism.

AXIDI’s mission is “As an undergraduate women’s organization, is to realize our potential and grow in sisterhood and in knowledge.”  

“Being apart of this sorority has helped me be more socially involved, along with acquiring leaderships skills and growing to be more responsible,” Vanessa Navarro (senior/Criminal Justice) said.  
Phi Sigma Sigma

Phi Sigma Sigma (Phi Sig) is a non-profit organization that raises money for their philanthropy, the Phi Sigma Sigma Foundation. This foundation is also partnered with the Kids in Need Foundation, which benefits school and college readiness.

Every year, Phi Sig puts on multiple events like Kicks for Kids, their annual Easter Egg Hunt, and Mr. Phi Significant to raise money for their philanthropy. Phi Sig’s mission is to “Inspire the personal development of each sister and perpetuate the advancement of womanhood.”

“I joined my sorority because I fell in love with the philanthropy and the girls in the sisterhood, throughout my experience I have developed time management skills and organizing, as well as executing fundraising events. It has allowed me to network outside of my sorority and get involved on campus” Jeniffer Galeana-Vasquez (senior/Communication Studies) said.
Phi Mu

The Phi Mu Foundation has raised nearly $14 million since 1986, to their national philanthropy, Children’s Miracle Network Hospital (CMNH). There are currently 170 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals nationwide, with U.C Davis being the closest one.

Phi Mu hosts events like Pops for Tots, and their annual Dance Marathon, which all the proceeds go to their philanthropy.

Phi Mu’s mission statement is, “Our purpose is found in the principle of love, honor and truth. We pursue the interest of women of collegiate campuses and in our communities. We are individualists, leaders, philanthropists, and friends.”

“I was looking for an opportunity to grow as a person and to gain leadership experiences and that why is exactly why I joined Phi Mu. If you are looking for social networking and to grow as a person sorority is definitely the right choice.” Gabriella Castellos (senior/ Sociology) said.
