Turlock Retail has applied for a retail store and a drive through coffee kiosk on a former house lot on the corner of Monte Vista and Crowell.
With various new businesses coming into Turlock, like the new Ten Pin Center, many people pass by the empty lot hoping to see their favorite store, restaurant or fast food chain.
Cinthia Soto (Junior, Child Development) has hopes for a mall to be placed in Turlock. “A mall in general would be nice to have in Turlock so we could have a variety of stores and not have the disadvantage of having to go to Modesto,” said Soto.
Since the site is so close to campus, it brings up the concern of more traffic in the area, but Soto is happy to here it is close to campus. Soto said since many students are always on the go, they can stop quickly to get something they might need before class or work.
Cristian Sandoval (Junior, Biology) would like to see a bagel shop instead of a retail store, since there would be a coffee kiosk right next to it. He believes that having this coffee shop so close to campus would be beneficial for students.
“I think it could benefit us students in many different ways such as a place to grab something to eat before class or even a place to study,” said Sandoval.
Aurora Ramirez (Junior, History) doesn’t like the idea of another coffee shop; she would rather see a healthy place to eat. “I feel like we have enough coffee places in Turlock and downtown,” Ramirez said.
