The Signal had the opportunity to sit down with Mei Curry (senior, Criminal Justice), ASI candidate for the Director of Student Clubs and Organizations, and discuss why she decided to run in this election and other issues that she will be advocating for if elected.
She said she best feels she can help students, first and foremost, by listening to their concerns.
“Each student has their own opinions, and if you don’t listen to them, they will get mad and do different peaceful actions… We just want to make sure that all the voices are heard,” said Curry. She added that that “is what student government is for.”
If elected, she will be representing Greek life students and their voices. She wants to “unite” clubs and Greek life and “do different events together.”
She plans to ask Stockton students what they would like to see on their own campus and listen to their concerns.
She also plans on creating initiatives to increase the level of Warrior pride amongst commuter students by doing giveaways.
Curry’s work in various clubs on campus the past four years, she felt, has prepared her for the position.
“I’m a big believer in everyone being equal, Greek and nonGreek students. We’re all considered equal. Clubs are equal, no group is better than the other. That’s what I personally believe,” Curry said.
Don’t forget to vote in the ASI elections on April 17th and 18th from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. at South Dining and if you’re at the Stockton Campus from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
