The Warriors men’s basketball team welcomed in the Chico State Wildcats Saturday night as they celebrated Alumni night in Fitzpatrick Arena.
In the opening ten minutes of the game, the Warriors were still feeling the effects of playing just two nights ago. Their shots would not fall into the basket as the crowd watched the Wildcats take an early and dominant 19 – 4 lead.
The Warriors’ defense stood up through the first half. They were able to get themselves in the game and move closer to cutting the lead the Wildcats had put up.
The Warriors were able to score 14 of the next 20 points to bring themselves within seven at halftime. The Wildcats led 25 – 18 at the halftime buzzer.
The Warriors came out of halftime looking to shake off their cold first half, but struggled. The Wildcats were able to out-rebound the Warriors 42 – 28.
The clock ticked away as the Warriors were never able to tie or lead the game at any point, and the Wildcats left Stan State with the win, 58 – 47.
Coach Paul Trevor, after the game, mentioned that lack of execution this late in the season was becoming a big problem.
“We are this late into the season and we can’t properly execute a play, and that is my fault. I have to teach these guys how to execute the plays we draw up, and there’s no excuse for it this late in the season,” Trevor said.
Ty Davis (junior, History) felt the effects of playing the fresher team. It had been one week since Chico State had played before their game against the Warriors.
“I feel banged up, and we were a little flat tonight. Couldn’t get much going, and it’s tough playing a fresh team like that when we’re coming out of a hard fought win two nights ago,” Davis said.
The Warriors will split their quick two game homestand with twelve days off before they head to Pomona to start a two game roadtrip.
The team will return home on Thursday, Feb. 28 when Cal State LA comes to town.
Make sure you come out and bring the energy to Fitzpatrick Arena. Go Warriors!
