The CSU Entertainment Alliance offers a variety of degrees, programs, and internships for students who want to grow and hone their skills in preparation for careers in the entertainment business.
Opportunities Offered
CSUEA is associated with all 23 CSU campuses. A few of the degrees offered are business, communications, computer science, and much more. The program connects students to industries and internships in Los Angeles and San Francisco.
At CSUEA, students have the opportunity to attend conferences where guest speakers from famous entertainment industries speak.
Simone Nelson, Managing Director of the CSU Entertainment Alliance states, “We offer funding to bring in industrial leaders to speak to the students.”
The CSUEA Goals
Simone Nelson also states the Alliance is here to help students make connections with entertainment industries such as Fox, Disney, and DreamWorks. Getting into these industries can be difficult, but the Entertainment Alliance makes it easier. They have made it their goal to connect their students with these top-notch industries.
“We are a connector. We are connecting to the entertainment world,” added Nelson.
A New Major
Dr. Roxanne Robbin, chair of the Art Department, is working on designing another degree (Creative Media) that will connect students to the Entertainment Alliance. The major is designed to “combine technologies that people have to be successful storytellers,” said Dr. Robbin.
Additionally Robbin states, “The chancellor’s office, which is kind of like headquarters of our campuses, they’ve looked at the kinds of jobs people have in California and wanted to see how they can help encourage people who are ready for the workplace for the jobs that are in California.” Students can talk more with their advisors about this special major.
How To Apply
When applying online, students can navigate through the website and find what degrees they are most interested in. Students can apply for memberships, internships, and even summer programs by going through the “Opportunities” and “Student” category on the right corner of the website. Each link a student clicks on will open another website that gives further directions on how to apply. CSUEA offers professional grants for students, and some of the memberships offer discounts for CSU students. More information on how to apply and on the different programs and internships offered can be found here, https://www2.calstate.edu/CSUEA/Pages/default.aspx.
A Student’s Perspective
Jacqueline Cervantes (sophomore, Theater Major) said that this can be very helpful for students who are looking to go beyond their hometown and trying to get far with their careers. “With this, there are unlimited opportunities, and it could really help get theater kids out there,” said Cervantes.
Students in the creative arts have much to look forward to at the CSU Entertainment Alliance, and they are waiting for more students to apply now.
