Vintage at the Yard at The Fruit Yard located on Yosemite Blvd. in East Modesto provided an interesting mix of craft and antique vendors during the seasonal event. The event saw vendors selling vintage items as well as local artists sharing their work with others.
The Fruit Yard’s lake served as a beautiful backdrop for this unique vintage sale. The grassy area surrounding the pond was lined with vendors looking to share their vintage items or their art with the crowd of locals who had come to collect these unique finds.
Some vendors were selling old vintage items, whereas others were selling their crafts or art. The event saw many returning vendors such as Catherine Patterson, who was selling artistic window displays which contain seasonal themes.
“I create windows and things like that for the winter. In the spring and summer, I do fairies and gardens,” Patterson said.
“I have actually done this event a couple of times… I think [I originally heard of the event] through another vendor at another show,” she explained.
Cindy Ellis, another returning vendor, was running a booth of handmade quilts. “We make them all, quilt them all, and hopefully sell a few,” said Ellis.
Ellis explained that she is taking full advantage of the the fall sale since last spring’s was cancelled.
The sale was not only for artists and crafters, however. This event also served as a gathering for people wanting to sell their vintage items. Books, suitcases, toys and collectable items could be found within these booths. Antiques and memorabilia were all available for purchase.
For many, it can be difficult to go to multiple yard sales in a day while looking for vintage items, but this event puts all of those historical finds in one place.
“I love yard-selling and going to estate sales, that’s where all of this (his inventory) comes from believe it or not,” said antique vendor Ozzy Castro.
Castro spoke about his love for vintage items, saying, “I have some things from the ‘20s all the way to the ‘90s. There’s a little bit of everything.”
This event really did have a little bit of everything. There were items spanning across decades, so a shopper could easily find items relating to whichever decade holds their interest.
Vintage at the Yard next occurs on March 19 and May 21 for their spring dates. Admission is $3 per person for anyone 15 years old or over. More information regarding this event can be found on Vintage at the Yards’ website.
