Stanislaus State’s Associated Students Inc. met for the fifth time in the fall 2021 semester to discuss a variety of topics, highlighted by plans for an upgraded child development center and a conversation regarding vaccination status potentially impacting upcoming class registrations.
Addressing Vaccinations and Class Registration
ASI discussed changes to registration holds amid releases of information on those who are not in compliance with Stan State vaccination guidelines. Those who are not compliant in filling out vaccination status or religious exemption forms will receive a hold for the spring 2022 semester, preventing them from enrolling in classes.
As of October 26, 1,944 students have not submitted any information concerning their vaccination status and an additional 269 students have submitted partial and insufficient documentation.
Nevertheless, there have been no changes on staffing, services or event changes on the Stan State campus due to vaccine compliancy guidelines. At the time of this publication, there also does not seem to be any discussion regarding changes for next semester, and the course schedule is expected to stay the same.
To increase student awareness of the vaccine guidelines, Stan State has been reaching out periodically via email as well as phone calls to reach members of the campus community, with varying degrees of success.
As of October 29, 303 of the students that have missing documentation or have not shared their status have started the process.
However, these changes are not set in stone and can change as we progress through the year as “It is possible that there will be some modality changes until students being registering on November 8,” said Dr. Christine Erickson, Stan State’s Vice President of Student Affairs.
Upgrades to Stan State Child Development Center
In the fall of 2023, a brand-new, state of the art child development center is set to be finished at Stanislaus State. Construction for the new center is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2021. The new center is estimated to double the number of families it can help support from roughly 60 to 140 families.
One out of six students at Stan State are parents. The school has been developing an ongoing effort to help these individuals be successful and graduate on time.
The new Child Development Center will also be used as a place for internships and courses related to child development. This building will be located near the agriculture and STEM buildings on campus.
Campus childcare has been very challenging due to a lack of space in the child development center, and Stan State officials are hoping that this new project can be of help.
Currently, Stan State is still looking for funding to get the project completed on time and is looking towards student fees to pay for the development.
In addition to pursuing a new building on campus, Stan State will also be seeking NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young People) Accreditation. The accreditation visit is currently scheduled for fall of 2023 and will be the only location in our community within a 30-mile radius.
The next ASI meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 2. More information on ASI can be found here on their official Stan State webpage.
