On November 18, ASI hosted the Decorate it Yourself Workshop for Stan State students who needed inspiration and ideas to make decorations for the upcoming holidays. The event allowed students to sit down, relax, and create their own decorations for the holidays. Arts and craft ideas for Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, New Years, and other holidays were presented and shared at the event.
Noel Burrell, one of the event coordinators said that the purpose of the event was “to find something fun for students to do and make it relevant.”
The event provided inspiration for the students who attended, giving them ideas and DIY (or Decorate it Yourself) supplies to make whatever they wanted for this holiday season.
Ana Zarte (sophomore, Social Science), attended the event and described it as being relaxing and a nice break from school. “I personally felt stressed and overwhelmed, but after the event and having the opportunity to create some artwork with my friends, I truly felt much better.”
Of course, the art doesn’t stop here. The workshop served as inspiration for what students can create on their own time.
Burrell said that she wants students to try these arts and crafts whenever they may have time and for whatever holidays they love to celebrate. She also explained that, even as we continue to interact virtually, spending time with loved ones and friends is still possible through these types of projects.
“Even though we are virtual, this event made it easier to talk to the students and see what traditions or movies they love during this season,” said Burrell.
Students can make time to talk to family and friends virtually by looking for activities you can do together online.
Burrell says that some of the examples they presented at the event were found on Google and are easily accessible. Students are encouraged to be creative and look up other designs they could try out as well.
