With finals here, there are several library resources offered to students, digitally. Outreach and Student Engagement Librarian Laura Rocco says that during finals, the Stan State librarians will be extending their chat hours until 8:00 pm Monday through Friday from December 7 to December 18.
Librarians can be emailed at [email protected], booked for one-on-one Zoom appointments from the “Ask a Librarian” page, or be contacted through the live chat box on the library website.
“Students can pick the option that works best for them. If they need immediate help, we recommend the live chat box located in the bottom-right corner of our website,” said Rocco.
One of the most popular resources is the University Library Database accessible on the school website at https://library.csustan.edu/home. Here students can are able to view e-books, peer reviewed articles, journals, and other research materials through the OneSearch advanced search.
As of now, there is still some access to physical materials being offered by filling out the form on the COVID-19 FAQ page to request print materials. After this form is submitted, the student will be contacted by the Library to either schedule a contactless pickup at the Turlock or Stockton locations, or see if they are eligible for item delivery.
For students getting stuck on their research or studying, Rocco offered some advice. “Don’t panic – ask a librarian! We know that research can sometimes be overwhelming or confusing, and we are here to help! There are also many resources on our website that can help you get started,” Rocco said.
One of the resources Rocco refers to is the collection of research guides cultivated in different subject areas that recommend the top resources for that subject. “These guides provide an overview of subject research and can save students time in locating relevant materials,” explains Rocco.
There are even research tutorials available to show students how to navigate the library homepage and databases. Additonally, there is as a page dedicated to stress relief resources for finals. Here, students can find a motivation wall, a study playlist, and self-care tips, as well as links to other library and campus resources.
“While it may be different than visiting us in person, we want students to always feel welcome to reach out to us,” Rocco said.
There are still a multitude of resources available to help students prep for finals, even if they are not in person. Updates on services and events are often posted on the Stan State University Library’s Instagram account.
