The Transcend Transverse Conference will be hosted tomorrow from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at room 130 in Mary Stuart Rogers (MSR) building.
During this conference Bamby Salcedo, a nationally recognized transgender Latina speaker and activist, and Dean Spade, an associate professor at Seattle University School of Law, are planning on being the two main keynote speakers.
Specifically, Salcedo will be a conference keynote speaker from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., whereas Spade is intending to host an evening reception from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m at the Main Stage Theater.
“The Transcend Transverse Conference is the first of its kind in the Central Valley and in the CSU system. It is important as there are few events in the Valley that focus on trans and gender nonconforming community, especially with a focus on intersectionality,” professor of Communication Studies, Dr. Vickie Harvey, said.
Dr. Harvey also added that “This event will have a direct increase on the knowledge, skills and awareness of professional providers who encounter trans service users. “
