Stan State’s College of the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences will be sponsoring the fourth annual Social Justice in the Central Valley Conference this week (Nov. 13-15).
Speakers hosting the conference panels will bring awareness to impactful issues such as home life, displacement, work, family, indigenous farmworker’s family/ environmental health, coalition-based activism, immigrant/youth engagement and patterns of social inequality.
There will be keynote speakers prepared to discuss these issues and share their own projects in regards to raising awareness. The speakers will be touching on at-risk populations and show how we can address these issues in our own community. The conference will have 25 sessions over three days and evenings.
The conference will begin on Tuessday from 10:00 am to 9:30 pm. Speakers will focus on issues of the home and displacement from home. The speakers will also discuss how we and our neighbors cope with the loss of housing. Grassroots advocacy stemming from challenges, ethnic or cultural heritage and a displaced sense of belonging will also be discussed.

The conference will continue on Wednesday from 12:00 pm to 8:30 pm. Challenges facing indigenous migrant farmworkers, including environmental/health concerns, sexual identity and diversity, community-based participatory research projects and protest art will be points of discussion.

The conference will end on Thursday and wil go from 8:00 am to 8:30pm. This day of the conference will address social justice inequities through the cultural lens of race, gender and ethnicity, with presentations focused on DACA, immigrant/youth activism and disparities in prosecuting police shootings.
