Spring 2016 Student Government Elections are approaching quickly, and with that comes Candidate campaigning. Potential candidates will be campaigning between April 5-26, which gives them time to connect with the campus and community and get their name out there before elections.
ASI (Associated Students Inc.) will be electing members for the board of directors, along with two ASI Executive Seats.
Now that campaining has officially begun, some candidates are making a plan on how to properly get their name out there and connect with the students and faculty here at California State University, Stanislaus (Stan State). Campaigning also comes at a cost, which is another thing to think about when running.
Stan State student Hayley Tobin will be running for the Director of Student Organizations this Spring. She has taken the initiative to use the well-known fundraising website, gofundme.com. The site allows anyone to form an account and release the link on Facebook, Twitter, or via email in order to raise funds.
“GoFundMe was the first thing that popped into my head when I though of fundraising because I know how many people use it, and how successful it can be if used in the right way”, said Tobin (freshman, Physcology).
The site can be beneficial to get the word out about the campaign in an easy way, and it allows friends and family members all over to donate without having to mail a physically check or cash.
Carlene Dyer is also preparing for elections by campaigning for the position of ASI Vice President. Similarly, she also finds it important to get your name out, and spread the word about what she plans on doing if she obtains the position.
Although Dyer is not planning on fundraising, she has put together flyers that have her photo displayed on them along with her iniatives and goals. “In the past I have seen flyers used by candidates and that is what I will use to really mae my name stick out to students”, said Dyer (junior, Psychology.)
Candidates will use different campaign measures within the coming weeks, but all have the same goal in mind, to better our campus.
