Stan State, along with the Alliance Small Business Development Center, (SBDC), will host the first annual Fast Pitch Innovation Challenge on Oct. 20.
The “Fast Pitch” is a competition involving two minute presentations by selected persons with innovative and creative solutions to needs or problems they have identified in society or the local marketplace.
There will be up to ten persons invited to present their innovative business/product concept at the Stan State “Fast Pitch” event.
The competition is open only to Stan State students, faculty and employees.
Judges of this competition will consist of three faculty members selected by the College of Business Administration.
SBDC partnered with Stan State because “there’s a lot of innovative people going to college coming up with unique and interesting product ideas,” Kurtis Clark, SBDC Director said.
The winner of the competition will receive a $500 cash prize and will be invited to compete in the Stanislaus Innovation Challenge on Nov. 17.
Clark provides advice for those interested in applying.
“Get your application in early and practice, practice, practice because two minutes isn’t very long and you need to clearly explain your concept in a way that judges can evaluate,” Clark said.
“Fast Pitch” is a spin off from the Stanislaus Innovation Challenge which is in its third year of taking place.
For those interested in applying “seek advice from people who are experienced in business because itis Important to understand not just the technical aspects, but the structure of business and how to operate it profitably,” Clark said.
The deadline to apply has been extended to 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 11.
