This year, the CSU Stanislaus community came alive with an abundance of creative costumes and festive campus activities! Students came to campus in a variety of fun costumes, some based on characters from movies and comic books, and others based on Halloween classics like plague doctors or witches.
Kory Odisho (Computer Science, Sophomore) dressed up as the villainous witch-doctor Dr. Facilier from Disney’s Princess and the Frog. Odisho explained that he chose his costume because he wanted to wear something unique.
Francisco Valenzuela (Math, Senior) dressed up as the Batman supervillain, the Riddler.
Valenzuela said he saw someone dressed as Art the Clown from Terrifier and was impressed by the costume.
Here come the men in black! Itzayana Romo (Communications, Senior) and Lesley Cantu (Psychology, Senior) dressed as two men in black from Men in Black.
“I kind of just pulled it out of my closet,” Romo explained. “I just love black and we decided to do this as a partner costume, since it’s a partner movie.”
When asked about the most impressive costume she had seen on campus that day, Cantu replied enthusiastically, “Chappell Roan!”
Joshua Gonzalez (History, Sophomore) came as a plague doctor.
Even the Dean of Students, Heather Dunn Carlton, got in on the festivities. She dressed up as the queen of hearts from Disney’s Alice in Wonderland, complete with a flamingo croquet mallet.
In the Student Center, students could make fun crafts and grab candy during the Titus Thursday event, which is held every other Thursday by ASI. Designed so students can take a break between classes from 11am to 1pm, this Titus Thursday was all about giving out candy to students to celebrate Halloween.
Students were able to trick-or-treat around the library from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Library Circulation and Research Help desks, DRS, WCCC, ASC, SCUA, Learning Commons and the Warrior Fab Lab gave away candy to costumed students.
From 1 to 4 p.m., the library and Fab Lab collaborated to put on the Library Scare-Lab in L-102. Students came to hang out, make crafts, and enjoy snacks and spooky music.
The Fab Lab provided miniature 3D-printed tombstones and skulls for students to decorate with 3D pens.
Melissa Parga (Art & Sociology, Senior) worked with the Fab Lab and the library to create an interactive Halloween celebration.
“This year’s event includes a costume contest judged by a panel and features three creative prize categories. First, second and third place winners will receive custom 3D-printed mascots,” Parga said.
The Fab Lab also hosted a costume contest where students could come to the Fab Lab in costume and have their picture taken to be judged at a later time by three judges.
The awards for first, second, and third place in the contest were either a gold, silver, or bronze 3D-printed trophy shaped like the Fab Lab’s duck mascot.
Students who made part of their costumes in the Fab Lab were entered into a raffle for the grand prize: a custom poster.
Pictures of the winners of the costume contest will be posted on the Fab Lab’s Instagram page.
