Stan State Women’s Track and Field Athletes Pave the Way for Future Female Competitors

Honoring Women’s History Month, Wild and Wallace share their journeys of strength and resilience

Annie Wild (Sophomore, Communication Studies) and Rionna Wallace (Senior, Sociology), two stand out athletes at Stan State, share their experiences as women competing at the collegiate level. Reflecting on personal challenges they have faced and victories they have accomplished, they highlight the hurdles they have had to jump over as female athletes, from stereotyping to expectations.

Throughout the conversation, they reflect on the courage, strength and resilience needed to succeed in the intimidating world of female athletics. Their experiences of believing in their abilities and pushing back against boundaries can inspire others to challenge what has previously been believed to be possible for women in sports and in life.

There are so many opportunities for all students to show their support for these athletes, but the most significant one is to cheer them on. Go out and witness for yourself just how strong these athletes are. Students get in for free just by showing a Warrior ID!

Rebecca Sobrevilla, Reporter

Rebecca Sobrevilla is a senior at Stanislaus State, majoring in communication studies and minoring in journalism. This is her first year with the Signal, she has previous experience in music journalism and has had several published articles through platforms such as ThatFangirlLife and Jaded Productions. With these publications, she has been able to interview artists like Stephen Sanchez, The Warning and Giant Rooks. Aside from writing, her hobbies include concerts, traveling, photography, staying up to date with pop-culture and supporting her favorite artists and sports teams.

Ella Adams, Reporter

Ella Adams is a senior at Stanislaus State, majoring in psychology and minoring in journalism. She works as a reporter for the Signal where she dives into reporting and writing news. She loves storytelling and is excited to use it both now and in the future as a journalist. In her free time she enjoys tennis, reading and watching true crime.
