Signal staff had the opportunity to spend a day with President Britt Rios-Ellis to see what a typical day looks like for the President of Stan State.
The day began early at her home, where she was joined by her husband, Enrique Rios-Ellis; her Chief of Staff, Gabriela Nuño and Signal Lead Editor, Fernando Delgado. At 8:00 a.m., she hosted everyone for breakfast.
Over breakfast, Rios-Ellis chatted with her husband and chief of staff about the day’s plans and what she has lined up for the upcoming months. Afterward, she packed some food to take to her office staff.
Once everyone gathered their things, they headed to campus, and arrived in Turlock around 9:30 a.m. The day officially began in the President’s office, located in Mary Stuart Rogers (MSR) 390.
At the office, Signal staff members Kaihli Miner-Hill and Ella Adams joined Delgado. They were given a quick rundown of the schedule by Rosalee Billingslea Rush, vice president for Strategic Communication & Marketing.
Rios-Ellis and her staff then reviewed a draft email from the Basic Needs department regarding delays to SNAP benefits. After providing feedback and some edits, her social media team stopped by to record content on her social pages. She filmed a video in her office highlighting Stan State’s First-Gen Week, followed by a short Thanksgiving-themed video in front of the MSR building.
Once filming wrapped, she returned to her office to prepare for her next meeting with Billingslea Rush and Dai Li, the director of Institutional Effectiveness & Analytics. The discussion focused on Stan State’s latest rankings and data trends. Rios-Ellis asked Li to take a closer look at developments in the computer science and psychology departments before moving on to the next engagement.
Around noon, she walked over to South Dining to attend the 7th Annual First-Gen Celebration Week event. After spending time connecting with students and celebrating the occasion, she gathered her things and prepared for the next stop on her schedule, a trip to Tracy.
Around 1:00 p.m., Rios-Ellis headed to Tracy for media coverage related to the exploratory phase regarding the possible Tracy campus.
Upon arrival, she met with San Joaquin County Fifth District Supervisor Robert Rickman, as well as others involved in this potential project.
Rios-Ellis then stood for an on-camera interview with CBS 13 reporter Charlie Lapastora.
After the interview, Signal staff members Delgado, Miner-Hill and Adams said their goodbyes to Rios-Ellis and the others in attendance, bringing the day in the life to an end.
